In honor of National Small Business Week (May 1-7), the UC Merced Small Business Development Center Regional Network (SBDC) held a small business recognition program last week in Fresno, Calif. to recognize a handful of businesses that especially stood out in 2015. We are proud to announce that two of those businesses are clients of the Cal Poly CIE SBDC.
Elemental Herbs and its organic body care line, All Good, was named the regional Family Owned Business of the year. Caroline Duell and her husband Ryan Rich created the brand to live and inspire others to live in balance with nature. The company just recently moved their headquarters to Morro Bay, Calif. where they renovated a downtown warehouse to serve as an eco-friendly environment for offices, inventory, and shipping. Q-Flex, the personal acupressure system created by mother-daughter duo, Hong and Andrea Cao, received the SBDC regional Woman Owned Business Award. The Q-Flex is a curved acupressure wand ergonomically designed to apply pressure to precise points on one’s body. After appearing on ABC’s “Shark Tank” in 2014, the pair was ecstatic to hear that Mark Cuban and Barbara Corcoran wanted to invest in their vision. In addition to these outstanding business awards, our very own Lynn Metcalf received the SBDC Impact Award for her exceptional consultant work with Cal Poly CIE SBDC Clients. Lynn holds a Ph.D., Marketing and International Business from University of South Carolina and a Masters in International Management, Thunderbird School of Global Management. She has guided several SBDC clients through intensive marketing and research, resulting in excellent outcomes.
