SBIR & STTR Funding for Small Businesses – What Are These Grants and How You Can Apply

Register Small businesses engaged in Research & Development (R&D) may be eligible to access government dollars through the Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) and the Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR) programs. SBIR provides early-stage research and development funding to small technology companies or individuals who are interested in forming a company. STTR is a similar program that requires small businesses to team up with a research institution, such as a university. This workshop will provide an extensive overview of the different phases of these federal programs, as well as an in-depth discussion of a simple, yet highly-effective process for developing a competitive Phase I and Phase II proposal. The workshop will review all important commercialization aspects of the proposal. Led by Matt Hutton; Matt earned a BS and MS in Environmental Engineering from Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo. He has over a decade of experience in R&D fundraising and has worked with a range of companies pursuing funds from various government agencies. QuickBooks Reporting lets you use your QuickBooks data to create interactive reports and gain better insight into your business. It quickly runs reports without sacrificing speed and performance for all QuickBooks users. 1099s are similar to a W-2 form, but are for non-employees. Businesses are required to issue 1099s to noncorporate service providers and certain incorporated service providers for payments made during the year. Federal law requires that all business owners file Forms 1099 for certain payments made during the year.

Dr. Embree brings a wealth of knowledge and experience, derived from her extensive academic and research background in bioengineering and microbial communities. Dr. Embree's journey began with a BS in Biomedical Engineering from Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo, followed by a PhD in Bioengineering from the University of California, San Diego. Her research stands at the forefront of microbial community study, employing innovative methodologies to explore both natural and synthetic ecosystems. With a focus on bioinformatics and multiple-omics datasets integration, her work examines the microbiome from a unique species-centric perspective.
